we steal from the rich to give to the poor
This sounds like a brilliant plan until you look at the ethics of it. The moral message of Robin Hood seems to defy all of the positive affects capitalism has on societies. The reason why context is important in the story of Robin Hood (every story ever told, really) is that stealing is morally wrong, isn’t it? Well, morality, like most things, is subjective. That’s why the story of Robin Hood had been so popular for so long. It examines morality in a situation wholly created by man’s own short comings, and displays to us how morality can, in fact, be completely situational as opposed to handed down from high without question.
As Brexit looms, I wonder what morality the UK is living with?
Can we as Christians really stand by and let the rich get richer and the poor get poorer?
My challenge for today is to reflect on how you are engaging in social justice for our times, like Robin Hood – are we standing up for the widows, the orphans, the homeless and the helpless?
